What is a Victorian Ball?
Go back in time to the mid-1800s and experience dances from the Victorian Era.
No prior experience is necessary. Half of the dances are country dances, which are taught
and called (similar to contra dances). Interspersed between the country dances are period
couple dances like the Waltz, Polka and Schottische.

But I don't have a partner!
No Problem! Come by yourself or bring one or more friends (the more the merrier!) We incorporate some dance mixers into the evening to help you get to know folks and most regular dancers are used to dancing with many different people. Mingling is the norm, not the exception!

But I don't have any formal wear?
Doesn't matter! You'll see some dancers in Victorian costume, but
many women will simply wear a prom gown or a nice dress; men, nice
pants and dress shirt. And since this is a ball, we request no
T-shirts or jeans. Check out our website FAQs for good suggestions on
what to wear.

But I don't know those dances?
Not to worry - No experience needed!
There are dances at the ball for everyone, beginners and intermediate dancers alike! We teach and walk through the country dances, so everyone can participate. Half the ball is dedicated to country dances and the other half are couple dances. We also offer classes the month before the ball and one FREE class the day of the ball to prepare (but you don't need a lesson to enjoy the ball).

Why does the ball cost more than the local contra and swing dances?
Vintage dance is still fairly new to the Triangle and is growing.
We don't get the volume of dancers that contra & swing have,
so our rates are set in an attempt that we break even on expenses.
Also, Victorian dances need a bit more space than contra or swing dances, so the
dance hall is filled to capacity with fewer people.
